La Misión de San Lucas (The Mission of St. Luke) was started in 2011 to serve the 40,000 Latinos residing in Wyandotte County.
Their primary focus is to teach English (ESL classes) which is the most essential need for virtually all immigrants – especially in this area. Along with ESL classes, the Mission also has a thrift store which provides quality used clothing, furniture, and household items to underprivileged families.
Service opportunities are abundant! Folks from Christ Church volunteer regularly to teach English (Monday and Wednesday nights). Tuesday mornings we source our household items from estate sales and have a need for volunteers to help with the packing. We’d love to have volunteers stock shelves, price items, or help out in the restoration project (taking slightly used or discarded household items and turning them into “sellable” goods) at St. Luke’s Thrift Store, open Wednesday through Saturday.
