Getting Creative with VBS

Focus … it’s been hard to come by the past few months!

Stress and grief from living in the unknown clouds our focus. It makes time fuzzy; our thoughts are disoriented without a clear and central perspective. So many days of the past 3 months I have prayed that the Lord would allow me to “see clearly” through the fog to the purposes in store for me on the other side of COVID-19.

One thing that has helped me gain some clear vision for the summer is preparing for our annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) – happening July 20-24! As is appropriate, this year’s theme and name is “Focus 2020.” This summer provides a unique opportunity for parents, and all adults who care for kids, to “focus” on leading the children in their lives through VBS at home. Our VBS-At-Home Kits will help the whole family “trust in what we can’t see because of what we can see.” Our daily themes will help us all – kids and adults alike – focus on what really matters:

We can SEE God in creation – Spending time as a family in the beauty of creation centers our souls through shared experience and provides natural opportunities for worship of the One who created it all for us to enjoy.

We can HEAR from God – When we spend time with our families learning to hear God’s voice together, it unites us and give our family direction and purpose.  What new path might God direct your family in as you spend a week hearing from him?

We can LIVE for God – Stripped of our traditional structures, we are forced to focus on the ways we can worship, pray, and grow in faith. Church isn’t confined to a building on Sundays but is lived out in our homes and communities as we care for one another in new ways. VBS in your neighborhood might be the start of new friendships and new faith that will last a lifetime.

Will you pray for VBS this summer? Pray that our families would be inspired and equipped to lead the kids in their lives; pray that everyone involved will see God more clearly as they grow together in faith!

Finally, will you also pray about how you can be involved? Our team is striving to be creative in this new reality and we are so encouraged that over 50 kids have already signed up! Everyone can play a part.  We’ve put together an Amazon Wishlist for anyone who would like to help purchase needed supplies.  You can also contact me, tiffany.mills.cca@gmail.com, if you want to volunteer in some way (we need help packing the supply kits, we’re putting together a prayer team, etc.).

I can’t wait to see how the families of our church are different as a result of this summer’s Focus 2020 VBS!

We send emails throughout the week with various updates, video, and content.  If you’d like to receive those emails (for either Overland Park or Mission) CLICK HERE to sign up!
