Read the Bible in 2021

Greetings in Jesus’ name and happy New Year!

Given that we are still in the Christmas season (day 8), I’d like to ponder this question: Why did Jesus come into the world? The Apostle John says, “God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.” (1 John 4:9) God the Father sent Jesus into the world so that we might live through him. In John 10:10 Jesus says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” I want that, don’t you? A life that is whole, complete, rich, and confident in God’s goodness.

How do we experience the life that Jesus gives? The answer, at least in part, is this: the abundant life of Jesus is marked by personal devotion – a life of prayer and reading God’s Word. This is foundational to having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. To that end, if you do not have a plan for personal devotion, I encourage you to begin the Bible in One Year (BiOY) today.

The BiOY has three daily readings (Psalm or Proverb, New Testament & Old Testament) followed by Nicky Gumbel’s commentary for each. You can receive the readings through the BiOY app on your phone or have them emailed to you daily. The app also has audio versions of both the readings and Nicky’s commentary. I use it and think it is a wonderful tool. A regular devotional life will help you to receive the fullness of life that Jesus promises.

Again, happy New Year! Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Blessings,
Patrick
