Spiritual Direction
at Christ Church Anglican
What is spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is a relational process in which a certified director sits with a client and listens for how God might be working in the day-to-day of their life.
People often seek spiritual direction if they are trying to find a safe place to reflect on their stories and deepest spiritual desires. This is especially natural when a person experiences a crisis, a disruption, or they feel confused or stuck in their relationship with God. It is also common for people to seek direction if they are in the midst of discerning a significant life decision.
* Note: Spiritual direction is distinct from meeting with a therapist or receiving pastoral counseling from one of our clergy.
How does it work?
A spiritual direction session is typically one hour. Your time may begin with silence or centering prayer. After that, the client shares from their heart while the director listens, prayerfully offering questions or insights as appropriate.
Spiritual Direction usually happens once a month and can continue for however long the client desires.
What is the cost?
Christ Church Spiritual Directors offer a 30-minute consultation at no-cost to help clients/directors determine if they are a good fit.
Once determined, there is a per-session fee of $50. Fees are paid directly to the Director (via Venmo, cash, check, etc.). If a Spiritual Director is still in training, there is no fee.
If cost is a barrier, Christ Church has limited scholarships available. For more information or to inquire about support, please contact Jason Veach at jason@christchurchkc.org.

“A spiritual direction session is an invitation to unhurry and breathe deep, to pay attention to what God might be doing in and around you. Maybe you are facing an important decision or life change, feeling far from God or simply wanting to grow in your awareness of God’s particular love for you. No matter your reason for seeking spiritual direction, it is a gift to bear witness to your story, and to look and listen alongside you for signs of God’s nearness and leading.”

“Life is unpredictable. We try to control it yet we are repeatedly confronted with the reality that our control is an illusion. We come face to face with our own and other’s humanity in all of its mystery and contortions of the beauty of its original design. Where is God in all of this sometimes messy, but wondrous life? It is an honor to invite you into a quiet, safe place where we can listen for God together. This is a sacred place where you are tenderly, compassionately seen, heard and loved. We can discover together the One who deeply longs for us and for whom we desperately seek, as He is never far away.”

“Life’s busy pace can sometimes cause us to miss the presence of Jesus in the ordinary. It is my privilege to come alongside others, slowing down with them to listen for the Lord and look for his fingerprints throughout their life. Whether you are in a season that is on the mountaintop, down in the valley, or somewhere in between, it is my joy to create space for you to slow down, and to explore the work of the Lord in your life together.”

“God works in our lives at all times, but the world is noisy. Spiritual Direction provides a time and space to slow down, be quiet, reflect on His work in us, discern His will for us, and connect His work to our transformation. It is my privilege to sit with people, listen for the Spirit, and watch for these connections.”
Christ Church has also has a list of trusted referral partners. Referral partners operate independently and their fee structure varies. If you would like help connecting with a referral partner, please contact Jason Veach at jason@christchurchkc.org.
